| At the end of November, 1830, Oliver Cowdery, Parley P. Pratt (h), Zebedee Coltrin, and Frederick G. Williams left Kirtland for Indian territory west of the Missouri River to preach to the Native Americans. They arrived at the border in early January and met once or twice with chiefs but were soon barred by Indian agents enforcing federal laws that prohibited whites, except licensed traders, to enter the territory. They found scant interest in Jackson County. In February 1831, Parley left for Kirtland to report their activities. |
