Doctrine and Covenants 33
October [18–31], 1830, Fayette, New York.
Ezra Thayer and Northrop Sweet are called to declare the gospel to a crooked and perverse generation.
Book of Commandments 35 heading: A Revelation to Ezra, and Northrop, given in Fayette, New-York, October, 1830.
1835 Doctrine and Covenants 55 heading: A Revelation to Ezra Thayer and Northrop Sweet, given October, 1830.

    Book of Commandments 35
Listen up 1 [1] BEHOLD I say unto you, my servants Ezra, and Northrop, open ye your ears and hearken to the voice of the Lord your God, whose word is quick and powerful, sharper than a two-edged sword, to the dividing asunder of the joints and marrow, soul and spirit; and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 1 Modern LDS verse numbers are left of the text.   BC verse numbers are in brackets. 1835 D&C verse numbers are right of the text.

Behold … marrow: also used for the beginning of verse 2 in D&C 6, 11, 12, and 14.

Turquoise: dropped after 1835

"Then Jesus answered and said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you?" Matt. 17:17 // Luke 9:41.
Called to declare gospel to perverse generation 2 [2] For verily, verily I say unto you, that ye are called to lift up your voices as with the sound of a trump, to declare my gospel unto a crooked and a perverse generation:
Field white 3 [3] For behold the field is white already to harvest; and it is the eleventh hour, and for the last time that I shall call laborers into my vineyard. "Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." John 4:35 // D&C 4:4; 6:3; 11:3; 12:3; 14:3; 33:7.
Vineyard corrupt, priestcrafts 4 And my vineyard has become corrupted every whit: and there is none which doeth good save it be a few; and they err in many instances because of priestcrafts, all having corrupt minds. Only reference to priestcraft in the D&C.
Church called out of the wilderness 5 [4] And verily, verily I say unto you, that this church have I established and called forth out of the wilderness:
Gather the elect 6 [5] And even so will I gather mine elect from the four quarters of the earth, even as many as will believe in me, and hearken unto my voice: 2
Thrust in your sickles 7 [6] Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, that the field is white already to harvest:
[7] Wherefore, thrust in your sickles, and reap with all your might, mind, and strength.
Be like Nephi 8 [8] Open your mouths and they shall be filled; and you shall become even as Nephi of old, who journeyed from Jerusalem in the wilderness:
I am with you 9 [9] Yea, open your mouths and spare not, and you shall be laden with sheaves upon your backs, for lo I am with you:
Declare repentance 10 [10] Yea, open your mouths and they shall be filled, saying Repent, repent, and prepare ye the way of the Lord, and make his paths straight: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand:   "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God." Isa. 40:3 // Matt. 3:3; Mark 1:3; Luke 3:4; 1 Ne. 10:8; Alma 9:28; D&C 65:1, 3; 133:17.
Declare baptism and Holy Ghost 11 [11] Yea, repent and be baptized every one of you, for a remission of your sins; yea, be baptized even by water, and then cometh the baptism of fire and of the Holy Ghost.   "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." Acts 2:38.
Faith to be save 12 [12] Behold, verily, verily I say unto you, this is my gospel, and remember that they shall have faith in me or they can in nowise be saved: 3
Upon this rock (gospel) 13 [13] And upon this Rock I will build my church; yea, upon this Rock ye are built, and if ye continue, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you;   Red: added in 1835
Remember Articles and Covenants 14 and ye shall remember the church articles and covenants to keep them:   Articles and Covenants
Confirm members and gift of Holy Ghost 15 [14] And whoso having faith you shall confirm in my church, by the laying on of the hands, and I will bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost upon them.   Ezra and Northrop must have been ordained elders by this time.
Book of Mormon and Bible 16 [15] And the book of Mormon, and the holy scriptures, are given of me for your instruction; and the power of my Spirit quickeneth all things:
Be ready for the Bridegroom 17 [16] Wherefore be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom;
Coming quickly 18 for behold, verily, verily I say unto you, that I come quickly; even so: Amen.
