Clay County Minutes  
August 21, 1833 Christian Whitmer ordained to "the office of the Highpriesthood." Discuss gift of tongues. Rebuke from the Lord "for reasoning in our own wisdom, &c."
August 28, 1833 High priests or elders may not be ordained without approval of a conference of high priests.
September 11, 1833 Bishop Edward Partridge head of the church in Zion, moderator. Presidents of ten branches appointed. W. W. Phelps sings in tongues, Lyman Wight interprets. Discuss the Three Nephites, points of law, tithing.
September 26, 1833   Ordinations, Salt River church (Allred Settlement).
January 1, 1834   Refugees send Lyman and Parley to Kirtland for advice.
June 23, 1834   Fifteen elders are invited to receive the Kirtland endowment.
July 3, 1834   Selection of the Missouri "general Council of High Priests." David Whitmer president, William W. Phelps and John Whitmer assistant presidents, and twelve counselors are selected.
July 7, 1834 *   Organization of high council in Clay county. David Whitmer president, W. W. Phelps and John Whitmer, counselors. Possible ordination of David as Joseph's successor. Joseph's work is now complete.
July 12, 1834   Proselyting missions and public meetings are suspended. Jackson refugees. Raise men for Zion's Camp.
July 31, 1834   Saints not to vote in the redistricting election. David Whitmer, W. W. Phelps, Orson Pratt, and Lyman Wight to preach throughout the Missouri churches, advising the Saints how to avoid upsetting neighbors. Hulet Branch: Samuel Brown, contrary to counsel, encourages branch members to speak in tongues, and ordains Sylvester Hulet because he can speak in tongues.
August 1, 1834   Samuel Brown: church is chastened because the leadership speak against the Methodists. He is given time to repent and surrenders his elder and high priest licenses.
August 6, 1834   Charge to peace missionaries. Hulet Branch members: Joseph's teachings are subject to their ratification, expect persecution by Clay county brethren. Amasa Lyman and Simeon Carter to labor with them. Twenty-one volunteer for peace missions.
August 7, 1834   Counsel from the presidents of the high council, missionaries paired up, license taken from one "not capable," High Priesthood ordinations, license for the presidents to present to the council in Kirtland.
August 21, 1834   Report from Hulet branch, mission assignments, ordinations. Is all disease and medicine of the Devil? Members may believe whatever they want, but may not teach that Satan is behind the idea of administering roots, herbs, and vegetables for health.
September 10, 1834   Ordinations, missionary recommends. Joseph's letter to high council and W. W. Phelps petition to the governor. First elders for Kirtland endowment nominated. Zion's Camp members apply for discharges from Lyman Wight; missionary certificates from Edward Partridge.
November 5, 1834   Ordinations, missionary license. End scheduled meetings, administer sacrament only in secret.
    No minutes are recorded in the Far West Record for 1835
July 25, 1836   Work, land, and emergency aid for 200 destitute families entering the state.
