Minutes of October 21, 1831
Emily Coburn and Elizabeth Gilbert complain about Newel Knight's attitude. He defends himself at great length. Elders decide against him, but the sisters are also admonished. Newel not to act as an elder until he is reconciled with the brethren.

Complaint against Newel Knight [Parley: purpose of the meeting is:] to search out & examine into the nature of grievances as set forth by sister Emily Colburn & Elizabeth Gilbert respecting the [43] teaching & Spirit which had actuated br Newel Knight for a length of time past. original: Coburn

Emily is the sister of Newel's wife, Sally Colburn and Elizabeth is the wife of Sidney Gilbert.
Testimony Testimony is taken on both sides.
Newel talksa a lot " … br. Newel said a considerable."
  It is decided that the Elders will "descide upon the Spirit which br. Newel was actuated by" by evening.
Vote/cast lots And after having two votes or lots written for each Elder & the Elders not consulting each other upon the subject the vote was taken or lot cast whether good or bad & on looking over the votes or lots they all agreed & came out bad; brs. Newel talksa a lot br. Newel then spoke until interrupted by the Moderator.
Other elders speak against Newel Elders who had not voted or cast lots "raised their voices against the spirit manifest by br. Newel."
Emily and Elizabeth rebuked Elders admonish the sisters for things that they thought were "out of the way."
Newel not to act as elder until reconciled and afterwards at the request of br Newel to know what he should do or what was to be done with him it was thought advisable that he should not officiate as an Elder until he {sh} could see with the other Elders & be able to discover that he had a bad spirit.
