Jared and Lydia Carter Tombstone
Photo and description beneath the photo are courtesy of Chuck Ford.
At first, the numeral 4 may appear as a 1 because the left side is light, but compare the spacing and appearance with the 1865 date under Lydia.
Their grave site is at the Oakwood Cemetery in DeKalb, IL. I suspect that the stone was erected by the children as on the front it reads Father & Mother. Oakwood Cemetery was founded in 1865, the year that Lydia died. When Jared died in 1849, DeKalb was not even a town. It was a frontier settlement known as Huntley Grove and was not incorporated as DeKalb until 1856.
